Glasgow Airport Passengers are Rude and Bad Mannered

An informal survey of airport staff at most of the UK's busy airports appears to show that passengers at Scotland's Glasgow airport are the rudest in the country.

A multiple choice questionnaire was sent to over 2000 full time airport employees at various busy UK airports asking questions about the behavior and courtesy of their customers. The questions they were asked included:

'Do your customers ever behave belligerently?' and 'Have you ever encountered and argumentative customer?'.

Although both Heathrow and Gatwick featured strongly in the list of worst airports it was topped by Glasgow airport in Scotland. The survey suggests that passengers using Glasgow airport are amongst the rudest and worst behaved in the UK.

Certain areas of the airport appeared to be hotspots for bad behavior and rudeness. The worst area was found to be the check in desks. Passengers appear to get agitated and stressed by restrictions on hand luggage size and weight limits and this can provoke many to respond angrily.

Another area in which people lose their cool very easily is in the Glasgow airport parking lots. People become impatient when waiting for shuttle buses and blamed airport parking staff when they couldn't remember where they left their vehicles.

Airport staff are experienced in dealing with stressed and anxious passengers. But noboby should be required to tolerate rude, belligerent and even hostile behavior when at work.

Glasgow airport managers are now considering a campaign to improve the behaviour of passengers using their airport. They are very aware of the stress caused to staff by rude passengers.

An airport spokesman said: 'if we can encourage our customers to be more courteous and less inclined to become angry and belligerent our airport will be a far better place to work. We'll have a happier work force and staff turnover will be reduced'.
